Kenneth Harney writes a nationally syndicated column, "The Nation's Housing," and has received numerous professional awards, including multiple Best Column awards from the National Association of Real Estate Editors, and the Consumer Federation of America's Consumer Media Service Award for "invaluable and unique contributions to the advancement of consumer housing interests." Harney's columns are closely read on Capitol Hill and by federal regulators. Several have led directly to changes in federal law. His Nation's Housing columns also have played prominent roles in congressional actions on cancellation of private mortgage legislation, adoption of consumer protections governing transfers of mortgage servicing, and convincing Fannie Mae to terminate an "equity sharing" reverse mortgage program that collected excessive interest payments on loans. Harney served a three-year term as a member of the Federal Reserve Board's Consumer Advisory Council, a statutory body that reviews all Fed actions on home mortgage, consumer credit and banking industry regulation. Harney also has served as president and chairman of the board for the National Association of Real Estate Editors. He is the author of two books on real estate and mortgage finance. His articles have appeared in numerous magazines, newspapers and professional journals, and he has been a guest on many TV and radio shows.
